Mission & Welcome

In Our School

Welcome to Winston

Dr. Jenn Milam, Pamela K. Murfin Head of SchoolWe’re glad you’re here! In these pages, you’ll learn more about the welcoming culture of our intentionally small school, details about our academic program, and information about student life as a Winston Eagle. You’ll see students, event highlights, and curricular innovation across disciplines, alongside how to apply for admission and tuition assistance. Our mission at Winston is to serve bright students who learn differently and we do that in innovative, thoughtful, and remarkable ways each day. While we’ve done our best to convey our culture and experience, nothing can replace a visit to Winston and the feeling you’ll share when you do.

Our campus, located in the heart of Preston Hollow in Dallas, Texas, is home to students in grades Kindergarten through grade 12 (and expanding to PreK 4 in 2025-26!), representing 52 zip codes from throughout the DFW metroplex. We are a community that values diversity in its many forms and offers opportunities for our students and families to engage not just at Winston, but also in our greater metro and beyond! Winston students shine in the classroom, on the basketball court, and in the art studio. We believe that the purpose of education is to support the development of the whole child and we nurture students in their social, emotional, cognitive, and academic development, alongside their physical and mental health.

It is an exciting time to be a neurodivergent learner! We know more, right now, than at any time in history about the brain, how learning happens, the cognitive processes in the brain that work to build understanding and knowing, and how teachers and classrooms can support those processes. At Winston, we know that neurodivergence is a gift and that learners with ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, or other learning differences, possess strengths that will enable their success, not only in the classroom, but in their future. We are a faculty and staff committed to research-based classroom practice, and more, we share a deep commitment to partnering with parents to develop a learning path for each student that empowers and engages them not only in academic learning, but learning about themselves and developing skills for self-advocacy and self-reliance.

From classrooms with our littlest learners to our academies, our mission and values permeate the life of our school and are best realized when you walk through the hallways at Winston. It is our goal to create confident, capable learners who lead fulfilled lives full of curiosity, kindness, and purpose. We hope your visit to our website inspires you to learn more about Winston - it would be our pleasure and privilege to welcome you to campus for a visit!

Warmly,

Jennifer L. Milam, Ph.D.
